ARE YOU READY FOR THE COLLAGE EXPERIMENT?
ARE YOU READY FOR THE COLLAGE EXPERIMENT?

Delegates at ADFEST will have the chance to unleash their creativity at Friday’s workshop with Ithyle Griffiths, a film director, photographer, artist and musician.

Using paper, magazines, ink and glue, each participant will leave ADFEST with a keepsake to treasure forever. Space is limited so don’t forget to register via Workshop@ADFEST.com

What will people learn from your workshop?

The Collage Experiment is a way we stretch our creative muscle by creating something within specific parameters that are beyond your control, so, almost exactly it mimics what we creatives have to do every single day. It is an exercise in creativity, with the added excitement of having to follow definitive rules.

You run a production company, Angela and Ithyle, with your wife Angela. Can you tell us the secret to collaborating as a duo?

Working with another talented creative partner is such a beautiful way to be able to work. In an agency, you get to bounce your ideas off of other creatives and workshop ideas until you get to the point where those ideas are in the best place they can be. Generally, directors don’t get that luxury.

Angela and I have a complimentary style of working together in that we have a shorthand in our communication, and we have an innate idea of what the other is thinking before they say it. Angela has a distinct eye for the graphic and design oriented look, while I tend to lean into the more story driven look.

You often use stop motion graphics in a really original, playful way. What are your favorite projects more recently?

We did a stop-motion campaign for a US Pharmaceutical brand called Linzess that was a lot of fun. It was the first time we got to marry live action with stop motion: we were able to have the talent speaking in real-time while the animation played out around them. I also just wrapped shooting Levi’s for FCB Jakarta, which has been an absolute blast.

You’re based in LA. How does the city inspire – or frustrate – you as a director?

There is nothing frustrating about Los Angeles. I am constantly surrounded by the most inspiring, creative people. Wether it is models or dancers or fashion designers or artists or musicians, LA is a city where you can live your passion. Whatever it is that you do, and you want to do, you can do it there. All while being in the midst of some of the most creative minds in the world. I love it so, so much.

This isn’t your first visit to ADFEST. Why do you keep coming back?

We had been working in Asia quite a bit (India, Thailand, Vietnam) and we had just shot a TVC for Oppo in Prague through BBDO Shanghai. They were throwing a party at ADFEST and I thought it would be a great way to network and drum up more work in the APAC region, and I’ve been coming back ever since.
