CHRISTIAN MIX-LINZER: “WE CREATED A PIECE OF MUSIC WHERE THE SOUND IS ALSO TRANSFORMING”
Tracks & Fields in Berlin is behind the futuristic soundtrack for ADFEST’s 2018 animation, which it created in collaboration with MPC Shanghai.
We asked Christian Mix-Linzer, CEO of Tracks & Fields, to explain the inspiration for this year’s track.
Can you describe the collaborative process with MPC?
When we received the theme for ADFEST 2018, Transform, we instantly knew that we wanted to create a piece of music where the sound is also transforming in a way. Looking at the first visuals, we also wanted to propose something that is a bit more atmospheric, contemporary and arty.
We then discussed moods and tonalities with MPC and quickly were on the same page about the overall direction. Once we had the first version produced by one of our composers, MPC started animating to the music. After that, we sent versions back and forth to get to the final film.
Why did you decide to launch your own music supervision company in 2008?
I was working in music since my teenage years and later started working in feature film post production. At the end, I simply could not decide which industry I wanted to work in, so I created a company where I can be in both worlds.
I am personally obsessed with all the constantly emerging music talent in the world, so naturally the direction of the company was always about being a company that finds this talent long before other music companies and record labels, then brings this talent into the world of advertising and films to work on great projects together.
What inspires you, outside of work?
I actually have two tastes in music, a professional one and a private one, so outside my work, my private taste in music is a major inspiration outside of work as well. I am also an avid traveller and try to see as much of the world as I can.
