BEFORE WE TURN 21, LET’S REVISIT 20 YEARS OF ADFEST FILM WINNERS
To celebrate the 20th Anniversary of ADFEST earlier this year, Campaign Brief Asia published an epic compilation of all the best annual winners from the Film Lotus category since 1998.

From McCann Melbourne’s infamous ‘Dumb Ways to Die’ (2013) to JEH United Bangkok’s classic Love Story series (2006), Dentsu’s epic ‘Running Woman’ (2000), and Ogilvy & Mather Bangkok’s hilarious ‘Weight Lifting’ spot (1998), this rich archive of TVCs represents the eclectic brilliance of Asia’s creative industries.

Ted Royer, Chief Creative Offier at Droga5 New York, told Campaign Brief Asia that the Love Story series is by far his favourite: “Smooth E's Love Story is head and shoulders above the rest of the crowd. It's so great on so many levels. It's grounded in a simple premise, constantly funny, and very inventive (the frozen fight scene is a great moment). It's episodic in the best way, you have to watch more. And it's unmistakably Thai while being very relatable to anyone around the world.”

In the first 19 years of ADFEST, there were 17 Grande Lotus awards handed out in the Film Lotus category. Of these, 10 awards were won by Japanese agencies with Japan's powerhouse agency Dentsu winning the Grande Lotus five times, including four years consecutively from 1999 to 2002!

Thai agencies have won the top award five times, although the only multiple winner is JEH United Bangkok with two Grande Lotus Film trophies.

Singapore and Australia have won the best of film at ADFEST once apiece.

There was no Grande awarded in the Film Lotus category at ADFEST 2017.
