    THE FILM OPENS TO INTRODUCE JAMES SQUIRE, A CHARISMATIC OUTLAW, AT HOME IN THE CRIMINAL UNDERWORLD OF LONDON, 1176. THE VOICE OF RORY MCCANN (GAME OF THRONES) OFFERS AN IRONIC COMMENTARY OF SQUIRE’S LIFE: HE WENT TO CHURCH (TO GAMBLE); REMEMBERED HIS MANNERS (TO HIS VICTIMS); AND RESPECTED THE LAW (WHEN EVADING THEM). AFTER A HORSE CHASE, SQUIRE IS CONVICTED FOR HIGHWAY ROBBERY AND SENT TO PENAL COLONIES IN NEW SOUTH WALES. ONCE IN AUSTRALIA, HE WAS CAUGHT STEALING HOPS FROM THE HOSPITAL STORES WHERE HE WAS WORKING. HE IS PUNISHED WITH 150 LASHES, EVENTUALLY INSPIRING THE MODERN BRAND’S BEER OF THE SAME NAME. AT LAST, THE FILM TRANSITIONS TO SQUIRE’S FUTURE AS A SUCCESSFUL BREWER AND MEMBER OF THE EARLY SETTLER COMMUNITY.
